Velvet Buzzsaw

Context

Velvet Buzzsaw is an abstract idea as a final design outcome.Wh little framing by concrete artifacts, this project aims to explore how both visual and verbal concept completes each other.

Concept Design:
re-orchestrate the visuals of a movie poster with ambiguous movie title and tag-line so the genre of the movie is completely altered

DEFINE, GATHER & DECONSTRUCT

Examine the graphic form and structure of the selected poster genre: thriller and form a clear understanding of the central visual language.

‍Layout & Framing:
→Main character's portraits
→Psychological environment or narrative referent structure
→Vignetted action scenes surrounding the primary image

‍typography:
→Material textures: blood, scratches
→San serifs with period references
→Thin serifs

graphic styles:
→Antiqued & distressed surfaces: watery textures, fading, misprinting, etc.
→Smoke, fog, blood dripping and dusty textures

NEUTRALIZE

Finalize selected film, fictionalize actors/actresses names and neutralize irrelevant genre references.
